Player

Choose how the player looks and behaves wherever your library's videos play.

The Player page sets the look and behaviour of the player for every video in the library: on your site, in Quick Embed iframes and in the search widget.

Open it from the library sidebar: Libraries → your library → Player.

How saving works

Changes on this page are a draft. The Live preview beside the settings follows every change, so you can try things before anyone sees them.

  • Switch the preview between Desktop and Mobile with Show as.
  • A bar at the bottom lists the cards you changed. Select Save player to publish them, or Discard to go back to the saved settings.
  • If you leave the page with unsaved changes, the console asks first.

Saved changes apply to every embed of the library at once. You don't need to regenerate embed codes.

Playback speeds

Turn on the speeds viewers can pick from the speed menu, then choose the Default speed the video starts at.

The default speed can't be turned off: choose another default first.

Controls shown

Pick which controls appear on the player:

ControlWhat it does
Play / pauseStarts and pauses the video.
Progress barShows the position and lets viewers seek.
VolumeMutes or changes the volume.
CaptionsTurns captions on or off when the video has a transcript.
Quality menuLets viewers pick a resolution.
Speed menuLets viewers pick one of the speeds you turned on.
Picture-in-picturePops the video out into a small window.
FullscreenPlays the video fullscreen.
Skip ±10 sJumps 10 seconds back or forward.
Chapters menuLists the video's chapters.

Behaviour

  • Autoplay: the video starts on its own, muted, because browsers block autoplay with sound.
  • Split the progress bar at chapters: shows each chapter as a segment of the progress bar.
  • Show chapter title while seeking: shows the chapter name while the viewer drags along the bar.
  • Resume where the viewer left off: a returning viewer continues from the same moment.
  • Loop: starts the video again when it ends.

Add chapters to a video on its details page. See Manage videos.

Look

  • Style: Rounded, Square or Minimal.
  • Primary colour: the colour of the progress bar and active controls, typed as a hex value like #3d55d6. The field only takes hex.

Custom CSS

For finer control, style the player through its classes in Custom CSS. It's an advanced setting, so check the preview before you save.

  • Custom CSS can be up to 16 KiB.
  • @import and url( aren't allowed, so the player never loads files from other sites.
  • Reset CSS empties the field.
