Draft: these docs describe OctaVideo as it will be at launch; some features may not be live yet.
OctaVideoDocs

Quickstart

Create a library, upload a video and put it on your site in about 5 minutes.

This guide takes you from an empty account to a protected video playing on your website. You need an active OctaVideo workspace and a video file on your computer.

Choose a plan

Open the console. On your first visit the User board shows a short checklist. Create a library unlocks once a plan is active, so start with Choose a plan.

During the private beta every workspace starts with a 30-day trial. See Private beta.

Create a library

Select Create a library and go through the four steps:

  1. Name & region: a name in lowercase letters, numbers and dashes, such as course-videos, and the storage region. The region can't be changed later.
  2. Encoding: the codec and the resolutions every upload is encoded into. H.264 plays everywhere.
  3. Security: the encryption, and the domains your videos may play on. You can add domains later.
  4. Review: check every choice, then select Create library.

The new library opens on Videos. Read more in Libraries.

Upload a video

Select Upload videos, or drop files anywhere on Videos. The uploads panel shows the progress and keeps running while you move between pages.

When the upload finishes the video is Queued, then Encoding with a percentage, then Ready. Only Ready videos can be played. See Upload and import.

Allow your domain

Open Security → Access and add your site under Allowed domains, for example academy.example.com or *.example.com. The player refuses to play on any other site.

Embed the video

Open API & embeds → Quick Embed:

  1. Choose a video: pick your Ready video.
  2. Where it can play: check that your domain is listed.
  3. Select Generate iframe, then Copy iframe.

Paste the code where the video should appear on your page:

your-page.html
<iframe src="https://player.octavideo.tech/embed/LIBRARY_ID/VIDEO_ID?otp=OTP"
  style="border:0;width:100%;aspect-ratio:16/9"
  allow="encrypted-media; fullscreen" allowfullscreen></iframe>

The player sizes itself to its container and stays 16:9.

Before you go live

A Quick Embed code is valid for one month and works for every visitor of the allowed domains. That suits public previews and testing.

For paid or private content, have your server request a fresh one-time password (OTP) for each signed-in viewer on each page view. Then only your viewers can play the video, and you can count each of them.
